Twitter is a strange forum, guys.
It’s the best and worst of society literally wrapped into 280 characters.
A wise human once said “nobody is ever right on twitter, but also nobody is ever wrong.”
I also just made that up - but I think it’s fitting.
I personally love logging into our account @YinzerCrazyShow
(FOLLOW!) when relevant breaking news hits the jet-stream - pun intended.
Last night as I while watching the Bachelorette, I was rudely interrupted by the breaking news that the Jets had released former Steelers All-Pro running-back Le’Veon Bell.
I don’t need to give you the intimate details. In short, Bell held out his final season in Pittsburgh because he wanted long term security and the big dollar bills.
Ultimately, he parted ways with the Steelers because they were unable to fork up the green. The New York Jets were able - signing him to a four-year 52 million contract in the offseason of 2019.
Honestly - I think it worked out for Lev. That’s up for debate.
What isn’t up for debate is that it didn’t work out for the J-E-T-S, as they now have to eat millions of dollars to pay a guy to play for another team.
His time with the Jets was incredibly pedestrian.
Bell played in 17 total games.
He had zero 100-yard rushing contests.
He also never had a rush longer than 19 yards.
Last night Titans QB Ryan Tannehill had a 23 yard run.
Instead of getting into the "should the Steelers sign him?!" dance, I decided it would be far more fun to encapsulate some of the best Bell Twitter takes on the inter-web last night - featuring some of our fan responses on our twitter page.
You guys are awesome - and we’re thrilled to feature your input on the site, so keep engaging with us!
Here were some of my favorites:
I created a poll last night that simply said “Does singing Le’Veon Bell make the Steelers a better football team?”
As we sit at 12:30 PM ET today - I’ve received 110 votes.
58% said no.
42% replied yes.
Yinz are liars!
@JusBlaze412
responded “How do you vote no? You can’t tell me Bell ain’t better than some of these guys on the roster.”
I’m with you JusBlaze. And I think Lev’ would be on your team as well if you know what I mean.
Brent, @UofKSteelersFan
responded “on the field yes. Off the field no.”
I generally agree with that take. I think Bell rubbed many the wrong way with his antics his final year in the Burgh - including his offensive line. If you don’t believe me go back and check out some of their quotes from when he was holding out.
And remember how happy they were when James Conner scampered into the end-zone week 1 against the Browns that season?
I don’t know that a lot of those guys, who are still around - would be thrilled to block again for Bell.
@GingerHavens
simply responded “Forget him.”
Damn, Ginger. We’re trying but the Jets and the rest of the twitter-sphere just won’t let us!
I also tweeted “The grass ain’t always greener guys” - in reference to Bell and many other former Steelers (cough AB) leaving Pittsburgh to explore greener pastures.
@Sam_Betts22
replied “But it’s still green in the burgh! Come in back!”
Hi Sam, I think you meant “on back” - unless you’re a bigger fan of Bell than even I could imagine.
But your point holds true. I do think that he would still find success with the Steelers, as we have proven to be a breeding ground for players such as Bell, Brown and Martavis Bryant who quite frankly haven’t found success outside of the green and brown grass in the Burgh’.
The last tweet reply was from Seth M. @RagingYinzer
who simply said “Don’t mess with the Apple Card. That thing has CRAZY high interest!
I feel you on two levels my dude. Especially during a bit of a recession, nobody wants to mess with high interest rates right now.
Also, great way to fit in the operative word “Crazy”.
Lev’ Bell is a bit crazy.
But so are we.
And so are Yinz.
This has been a fun exercise.
