A Closer Look at Penguins Trade Deadline Wish List

Buckle up baby, because here I will take you through a look at what players should be on the radar watch for the Pittsburgh Penguins' management as the 2023 Trade Deadline approaches. Also, I'll predict the packages the team would probably need to make to acquire these pieces.

The first matter of business for the Penguins should be to add two forwards.

The first player that shows significance in this matter would be and is forward James Van Riemsdyk of the Philadelphia Flyers.

He is a flexible forward that can play on the top-three lines and knows how to score at appropriate moments of the game, and he really in my opinion needs a fresh start and end to a brilliant career. He is a smart forward that knows how to play the game according to his skill and is a well-aged veteran that can contribute with brilliant form.

He would need help however with the speed aspect, so my next guess on the radar for the Pens management would be forward Max Domi.

Max Domi has had a turn-around year with the Chicago Blackhawks this year, where he has come back to excellent form in the game and works hard to help his team, he has demonstrated he can play with grit and manage to score goals according to gameplay during crucial moments with a good skating ability to his credit.

So obviously these guys won't come for free. So who gets moved?

In my opinion, the first player that comes to mind would be forward Jeff Carter, and perhaps a second-round draft pick.

Why I would say Jeff Carter, even though he has a no-trade clause? The reason being he started his career in Philadelphia with the Flyers organization, where he would look to retire his legacy. A second-round pick because GM Ron Hextall would be indeed looking to offset some salary and the right package would make sense in this theory.

Max Domi, who signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2022 offseason, could be dealt for forward Kasperi Kapanen or forward Jason Zucker, and most likely a draft pick of some sort.

The Chicago Blackhawks started a rebuild that shocked the hockey world with a couple of questionable trades. Even by taking on a bad contract or two. They will be looking to use Max Domi’s value to the fullest and allow themselves to see if he can attract a reasonable offer in the market.

For the defensive aspect,
I will reiterate as I said in one of my previous blogs, Matt Dumba would fit in nicely, and this is where forward Jason Zucker would come in and be utilized as an option for the Minnesota Wild.

For now my fellow yinzers, let's observe the chess-like game of GM Ron Hextall and the brilliant edge in President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke.

Happy Pride Week!!
