Steeler fans rejoice as the Steelers have resigned their kicker Chris Boswell to a 4-year, $20 million contract. And it's well deserved, as Boswell has become automatic with his kicks, proving to be one of the best special teams players in the league. In celebration of the Wizard of Boz and his new contract, let's take a look at some of his best moments in the black & gold.
Honorable Mention:
Touchdown pass vs. Denver Broncos, 2018
While it was a down year for the 8-year vet, nobody forgets your first. The Steelers were down 10-3 vs. the Denver Broncos and were nearing the end of the second quarter. Down at Denver's 2-yard line and 4th and goal, the Steelers looked like they were gonna take the 3 points instead of the potential tying touchdown. But the ball was snapped to Boswell and he ran right side of the field and threw a perfect throw on the run and it was caught by offensive tackle, Alejandro Villanueva for a touchdown! Boswell would then kick the extra point giving Boswell the whole 7-point hat trick! While the Steelers wouldn't win the game, it was great to see Boswell get to play a trick play on the often-conservative Steelers special teams.
#5: Longest Field Goal at Heinz Field/Acrisure Stadium vs. Las Vegas Raiders, 2021
Heinz Field may be gone but the moments and records will never die. In 2021, the Steelers hosted the Las Vegas Raiders in a week 2 matchup for some AFC bragging rights. The Steelers would fall 26-17 vs. the Raiders but Boswell made history in this game, scoring 3 points with a 56-yard field goal! The longest field goal in Heinz Field history was previously owned by former Buccaneers kicker, Matt Gay in a 2019 preseason game when he hit a 55-yarder.
But unbelievably enough, that wasn't even Boswell's longest field goal...

#4: Career Longest Field Goal vs. Dallas Cowboys, 2020
The Steelers were living their best lives around the midseason in 2020 being undefeated and going into Dallas, Texas with a 7-0 record. The Cowboys brought the heat though and proved a challenge for the Steelers, but the Steelers pulled through and won 24-19. Even though Boswell missed a PAT earlier in the game, it's great to see that didn't discourage him, as he made up for it with a record-breaking strike through the uprights as time went down in the first half.
#3: Playoff Debut vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 2016
Chris Boswell signed with the Steelers in October of 2015 after being waived by the New York Giants before the regular season. Boswell went on to have a good rookie season and even won AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in December. Boswell has never missed a field goal in Cincinnati and he left his mark in the jungle in the wild-card game vs. AFC North rivals, the Bengals. Boswell would kick 4 total field goals in the game but the last one was the kick that kicked out the Bengals of the playoffs.
With 18 seconds in the 4th quarter, the Steelers were down 16-15, and after a controversial turn of events for the Bengals that resulted in two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties that allowed the Steelers to put the Bengals down for good, Boswell would kick a 35-yard field goal to win the game for the Steelers 18-16. In a career-setting rookie year, Boswell would continue to make himself a household name as this was only the beginning for the former kicker at Rice college.
#2: Six for Sixburgh vs. Kansas City Chiefs, 2017
The playoff success continues for the Pittsburgh kicker now in his sophomore year as the Steelers marched into Kansas City for a divisional round matchup to decide who goes into the AFC Championship. The Steelers went scoreless on offense but Boswell was apparently "feeling dangerous" as the Steelers went on to win thanks to the golden leg of Boswell. Chris would kick 6 field goals, a playoff record, giving the Steelers the win 18-16 and knocking out the formidable Chiefs and going on in the playoffs.
#1: The Wizard of Boz is Born
The 2017 season was the best season for Chris Boswell and even earned him to be an honorary member of the Killer B's. Boswell would go 3 weeks in a row making a game-winning kick as time expired. His most notable is vs. the Green Bay Packers in a week 12 matchup. After an unbelievable play from Ben Roethlisberger to Antonio Brown, the Steelers were down at the Packers 35-yard line with 4 seconds left in a tie game. Boswell stepped to the plate to attempt a career-long 53-yard game-winner. Boswell, with the pressure on him, made the long field goal and the Steelers would win the game as Boswell was celebrated by players and coaches alike.
Next week was a week 13 Monday night matchup vs. the Bengals. It was a long and emotional game for both sides. Ben Roethlisberger would rally a 17-point comeback and the Steelers and Bengals would be tied 20-20. Once again with 4 seconds left, Boswell went on the field to prevent overtime. 38 yards out, Boswell nailed it and the Steelers would win 23-20.
Week 14 matchup on a December night, the Steelers would face the Ravens. If the Steelers win, the AFC North is theirs and with this, this game was bound to be a great one. It was an offensive shootout with Ben throwing over 500 yards and the Steelers at one point, were down by 9 points. A late touchdown put the Steelers down 38-36 and with another stop on defense, the pressure was on the Steelers to score at least a field goal to take the lead late and win the North. The Steelers drove down the field at Baltimore's 28-yard-line and its 4th down and 8. Boswell's number was called for the 3rd week in a row and if he makes this, the Steelers may very well win the division. Boswell makes it with 42 seconds left and with a strip sack from rookie T.J. Watt, the Steelers would win the game and the division thanks to the Wizard of Boz!
Boswell would go on to make the Pro Bowl that year and had the 4th highest in scoring with 142 total points.
Congrats to Boz on a well-deserved pay-day!
