On July 22nd, the Pittsburgh Pirates dealt DH Daniel Vogelbach to the New York Mets in exchange for RHP Colin Holderman. Vogelbach, 29, was on a one year contract with a club option for 2023.
Daniel Vogelbach in 75 games batted .228 with 12 home runs and 34 RBIs. He also had a .338 OBP, 0.6 WAR, 118 wRC+, and a .769 OPS.
Vogelbach was a very solid hitter for the Pirates this season. Statistically Vogelbach was one of the better hitters on the Pirates. He saw very little innings in the field this year making him strictly a DH.
In return for Daniel Vogelbach, the Pirates received RHP Colin Holderman. Colin, 26, made his MLB debut this season and appeared in 15 games for the Mets. Colin is under team control for another six years.
Colin Holderman in 15 games this season posted a 2.04 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 17.2 innings pitched. He also had a 1.02 WHIP, 2.26 FIP, 0.4 WAR, .183 AVG. The 26 year old rookie has had a solid rookie season so far.
Colin works with four pitches which are a sinker, cutter, slider, and changeup. His sinker was thrown over 50% of the time which has 14.7 inches of break.
This is the first trade of many this trade deadline. The Pirates are expected to make a few more deals that may include players such as Jose Quintana, Ben Gamel, or Kevin Newman.
