Say what you will about Steeler fans, but you can't deny they aren't hard to find! The black and gold threads are considered proper attire in the Burgh. Whether going for a few pints at Primanti or just shopping, you'll likely see a Steelers jersey on someone. But who would be wearing them, and is it also possible they're famous? In a word, definitely. Steeler Nation includes famous people like other athletes, rappers, and actors/actresses. What are some of these famous names? Let's get into some pop culture and shout out to the celebs with the proper threads!
*in no particular order*
Honorable mentions go to singer Christina Aguilera, NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson, comedian and Impractical Joker Sal Vulcano, actor Adam Sandler, and actor Paul Rudd.
#5: Jeff Goldblum
Dr. Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park brings his chaos theory to Pittsburgh! Born in the Pittsburgh suburbs of West Homestead, Goldblum's family had season tickets when he was growing up, making it very hard not to become a fan of the terrible towel team. He also has an interview with Colin Cowherd about how he almost cried when he met Le'Veon Bell in early 2016.
#4: Mac Miller
The late, great Mac Miller was a serious Steelers fan; once, he kicked a fan out of his concert for talking smack about them! Born in Pittsburgh, Miller was a fan since day one and has said the Steelers are #1 for him on his list. He's shown support to Ryan Shazier during his career-ending injury, and there are a lot of images of him in the crowd of Heinz Field. Upon his death in 2018, the Steelers paid tribute to him on social media, and even Steelers running back at the time, James Conner, had custom cleats with Miller's face, some of his song titles, and lyrics imprinted on them. A true diehard fan, rest in peace!
#3: Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dee Oh Double Gee and a fan of the Steelers since 1970 from watching with his grandfather. A big fan of legends like "Mean" Joe Greene, Donnie Shell, Jack Lambert, and more from the legendary Steel Curtain team. Snoop also has his own youth football team organization and coached former Steeler wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster. Still not convinced he's a fan? He got signed to the team on April 1st, 2023, and has been smoking the competition!
#2: Wiz Khalifa
I don't think it's hard to see Wiz is a Steelers fan. He has a song called "Black and Yellow" that plays during Steelers games at Acrisure. During the music video of that song, he's seen waving a Terrible Towel and wearing a Steelers shirt. He grew up a military kid, moving from place to place but settling in the Steel City. "Black and Yellow" would reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and become famous for more than just Steeler fans. Khalifa hoped it would become an anthem for the team, and it would become just that as the song became a familiar favorite during home games. He even performed the song during halftime at the 2011 AFC Championship. When he's reppin' his town, and you see him, you know everything.
#1: Kurt Angle
Wait, I get to talk about WWE and the Steelers in the same list? This is the best day ever! The former Olympic gold medalist actually tried out for the Steelers in 1994 as a fullback, but it didn't work out before he went back to try out in wrestling. He would've played against Ray Lewis, who was drafted in 1996. Funny enough, 1996 was the year Angle won a gold medal in the Olympics with a broken freakin' neck! Born in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Angle is not shy to say who he supports in sports, with a love for the Pittsburgh Penguins as well. Angle has also had the opportunity to lead the terrible towel twirl before a game against Tampa Bay in 2022. And if we're including his time wrestling in WCW, Kurt Angle has won as many world championships in WWE as the Steelers have won a Super Bowl. Is Kurt Angle a true Steelers fan? Oh, it's true, it's damn true!
