The 2022 MLB Trade Deadline was a crazy time for general managers and players. The Pirates traded away Jose Quintana and Chris Stratton a day prior to the deadline and made another trade right as the deadline ended. The Pirates acquired RHP Jeremy Beasley from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations.
Beasley was quickly optioned to AAA Indianapolis shortly after the acquisition.
Beasley, 26, is a right handed pitcher that was drafted in the 30th round in 2017. Beasley has appeared in three MLB seasons. Two of which were with the Blue Jays and one with the Diamondbacks. Beasley has struggled in the MLB posting a career ERA of 5.84.
Beasley's 2022 AAA stats: 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA, 43 SO, 38 IP, 0.82 WHIP, .153 Opponent AVG, 11 BB.
Beasley’s 2022 MLB stats: 0-0 with a 4.80 ERA, 19 SO, 15 IP, 1.27 WHIP, .250 Opponent AVG, 5 BB.
Beasley has clearly struggled in the MLB, but clearly has been dominant in AAA. The Pirates see him as a future bullpen arm, as the need for a bullpen resurgence behind David Bednar is quite evident. He joins Colin Holderman, who came over from the Mets in the Daniel Vogelbach trade, as a potential future backend piece.
