Happy Draft Day yinzers. I just wrapped up my 3-round mock draft, which of course, ultimately dictated who I think the Steelers will end up with. I have a flare for the dramatic, which is why I'm releasing this just hours before the draft. Not that you care. I'll throw in some bullet points along the way. Enjoy!

  • The draft starts at pick 2, as Bryce Young is a lock to go number 1. The Colts are reportedly eyeing Will Levis. But to guarantee they get him, they'll have to jump the Cardinals, who are also a candidate to trade down, enabling another team to move up for their QB. The Texans happily oblige, as they guarantee themselves one of the top two EDGE's in the draft.

  • The big stunner - the New England Patriots move into pick 9 to take QB Anthony Richardson. Mac Jones has fallen out of favor. Richardson could be red-shirted, and Jones could also be traded.

  • Texans ultimately get the QB they want, drafting Hendon Hooker at 12.

  • Darnell Wright goes ahead of Broderick Jones, which I've been pumping much of the week.
  • Commanders take hometown kid Deonte Banks, and the Steelers have an interesting handful of prospects. I think this ultimately comes down to Wright or Jones. Pittsburgh passes on Porter and Van Ness, to secure their left tackle of the future.

  • A couple of Pitt* players back to back, as Kancey and Addison go 26 and 27!

  • I've frequently mocked Bryan Bresee to the Steelers, but in this exercise, he didn't make it out of my 1st round.
  • Andy Wiedl and Omar Khan bypass their need for corner and can't hide their infatuation for Michigan interior lineman Mazi Smith. Trenches are addressed with the first two picks.

  • Darnell Washington to the Panthers is fun. That is all.
  • Well alright then. I did not see this coming. The Steelers are pining for a cornerback here. It's arguably their biggest need, and they've bypassed it twice. Tyrique Stevenson and DJ Turner are on the board. But so are Jack Campbell, Drew Sanders, and Trenton Simpson. Like I said, I didn't see this coming either. I sat here in agony debating what they'd do. But I think ultimately they go with the value over need, which is generally what this organization has always done. So which linebacker? Well, that also may surprise you, as they elect for the Swiss-Army knife in Simpson. I'd rather have Sanders and Campbell in that order.
  • Not much of a run on corners here, as the second tier (Cam Smith, Stevenson, Brents, Turner) are off the board.
  • The Steelers catch a break here, as a player I've frequently mocked to them falls into their laps late in round 3. Darius Rush is someone they've had multiple meetings with, including a pre-draft visit to the Burgh.
