The preseason is taking shape, and so far we can see the Pittsburgh Penguins need a little more work getting adjusted to their newly formed lineup.
To be honest with you, for a team that has the age and the skillset, it looks like the veterans are starting to work on the aspect of becoming that coalition going strong towards the net.
The turnovers the team has created in the past couple of games is pretty nifty as well, and even though they were on the losing brunt of both games, there are positives.
So, I was listening to the commentary of the Penguins game versus the Detroit Red Wings.
Right at the beginning of the game, the commentator had mentioned that:
“This Penguins team is still young at heart and is forming into a contender in the coming years with the veteran leadership they have”
With that said, it gave me every chance to think that this team does in fact have the potential to advance to the second round of the playoffs this year, because of that speed attributed to the commentator’s quote.
With the speed, will come the skills mentioned that will be on showcase in my opinion during the regular season, with toughness from the
three leading vets on the team.
The defense will be quite steady in nature due to the fact it is
highly rated in this year's rankings.
The offense has to get off though if they want to prove the high endurance of the team in general, starting with aligning the chemistry.
However, the main look here is that we have a stretch of games to go with minor tweakings in the making and the rash of plays to be executed before making any decisions.
The level of confidence is amongst the players as they are playing with poise and according to the coaching staff with play after play.
Capitalizing is the issue though, and the team will indeed be watching tape and figuring out ways to complete that part of the game to move on to the next level.
More importantly, the genuine look of this Penguins team is incredibly well shaped in general, which I have to say, Ron Hextall did a marvelous job in crafting a team with such restrictions on his hand at the end of last season.
Pittsburgh’s management has a well-experienced set of staff that has molded this team together, now, how they progress during the season is what awaits.
Notably, even though the goals are not coming as often yet, the skating ability is coming along well, with a top-notch change in formation around the offensive-zone's net.
This is a Pittsburgh Penguins team that will perform at top of the Metropolitan Division and hopefully secure home-ice advantage come playoff time.
In many words, we’re here to play hockey, preseason is just to work out the tweaks, but it'd be nice to still get some wins for our Crazy Yinzers!
