Pirates-Orioles Series Recap

The Pirates traveled to Baltimore to take on the Orioles this past weekend for a three game series. The Pirates lost the first two until Sunday they avoided the sweep with an 8-1 victory. 


Game One

The Pirates got shutout on August 5th, with a score of 1-0. Mitch Keller was on the mound and pitched a great game, only allowing one earned run, eight hits, and striking one batter out. Keller managed to get the double play ball when needed as he got two double plays in his six innings of work. Keller now has a record of 3-8 with a 4.21 ERA. Manny Banuelos and Yohan Ramirez each threw a scoreless inning.


The bats were quiet with only six hits and no runs. Bryan Reynolds, Ben Gamel, Ke'Bryan Hayes, Kevin Newman, Bligh Madris, and Jason Delay all collected hits. Hayes had our only extra base hit with a double. Reynolds and Hayes each collected a stolen base.


Game Two

The Pirates lost game two by a score of 6-3. JT Brubaker did not have a great start, giving up eight hits and three earned runs, through four innings. Eric Stout gave up two runs shortly after in his inning of work. Duane Underwood Jr pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout. Chase De Jong gave up a run in two innings of work.


The Pirate offense picked up the same amount of hits as game one with six, but managed to get three runs across this time. Two runs came on a 4th inning pitch to O’Neil Cruz as he hit a two run homerun to center field. That was his ninth of the year. The third run came on a Ke'Bryan Hayes RBI single, scoring Ben Gamel. Ben Gamel reached base three times which included two doubles. Greg Allen also doubled.


Game Three

The Pirates managed to avoid the sweep with an 8-1 victory. Bryse Wilson was on the bump and pitched very well. Wilson went five innings allowing four hits, one earned run, and striking out five. Eric Stout, Colin Holderman, and Yerry De Los Santos all pitched after Wilson to keep the game at one.


The offense was led by Michael Chavis and Bryan Reynolds. Both had two hits and an RBI. Kevin Newman, Ke’Bryan Hayes, Greg Allen, Cal Mitchell, and Jose Godoy all picked up RBIs in the victory. Ke’Bryan Hayes hit his sixth homerun on the year, in the 7th inning, ending the scoring on the day. 


The Pirates head to Arizona to begin a four game series starting at 9:40 PM EST, Monday evening.
