It turns out the next Steelers’ franchise signal caller was already in their own backyard. The Steelers just selected Kenny Pickett in the 1st round, making him the first QB to be drafted in the opening frame by Pittsburgh since Ben Roethlisberger in 2004.
Pickett, a fifth-year senior last season at Pitt, had a masterful season, finishing 3rd in Heisman Trophy voting.
Pickett threw for 4,319 yards and 42 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. He also completed 67.2 percent of his passes. He checks the “mobility” box as well, scampering for 233 yards and scoring five more times on the ground.
Although Pickett fell short of the votes needed to win the Heisman, he was the first Pitt player to be named a finalist for the award since Larry Fitzgerald in 2003.
The ACC player of the year will now take his talents from Heinz Field, back to Heinz Field.
In a story that’s sure to send shockwaves through the 412, Kenny Pickett is staying home.
