Recently we had the pleasure of catching up with Steelers legend Rocky Bleier for a Podcast interview that will be released this coming Monday, prior to the Steelers-Bengals game.
Bleier, a 4x Super Bowl Champion in the 70’s with the Black and Gold, had some interesting things to say about the current version of the Steelers. One of the things he talked about at length was the team needing to dig deep and find a “resolve” - starting on Monday.
The former Steelers running-back and Purple Heart Recipient has many questions about the recent offensive game-planning.
(Bleier) “When you throw the ball 50 times a game the offensive-line has a different mindset. The passing game has to be working to make our running game effective. That way defenses can focus on both.”
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, at 38 years old and returning from major elbow surgery, has thrown the ball more than 45 times in four of the last five games.
“It’s a bad combination going into the last three games that we have,”
said Bleier, who currently is in the top 10 in both all-time rushing yards and rushing touchdowns for the Franchise.
James Conner returned from injury last Sunday Night against the Bills and had 10 carries for just 18 yards.
Bleier also was quick to mention his curiosity surrounding the lack of QB sneaks. Rocky specifically cited the Steelers inability to convert on a touchdown opportunity on consecutive attempts from the 1-yard line against the Washington Football Team a few weeks ago.
“Ben is a big guy. I don’t know whether or not he has challenged his offensive line and said we’re going to get this yard or touchdown. Sometimes you need that kind of leadership to get in their face. I just don’t see that.”
Ben Roethlisberger has not attempted a QB sneak all-season. Which is likely a combination of he and the Steelers determined to preserve his health.

Also, please make sure to mark your calendar for this Monday, December 21st! We will be releasing the Rocky Bleier Podcast in its entirety. He talked to us extensively about his life and career in the NFL and Military, and had much more to say about this current group.
