Should Steelers Beat the Browns to the Will Fuller Punch?

Throughout the past week, it's been reported by multiple outlets that the Cleveland Browns are interested in free agent wide receiver Will Fuller.

Fuller, who has never really played a full-er year, was with the Dolphins last season, and appeared in only two games. Prior to that, he missed at least four games in every season with the Texans the four previous years. Uh - why would anyone want to sign this guy?

Fuller had a really rough go last season. He was banned the first six games for PED abuse stemming from the season before. The Dolphins took a chance on him and it did not pan out at all for them. Fuller finished with a whopping eight targets and four receptions. He also had personal issues as well that he was dealing with, which caused him to essentially disconnect from the team completely.

So once again - why the heck would the Browns be interested? I guess when weighing the risk-reward factor, what do they have to lose? He's only 27, and when paired with new Browns QB DeShaun Watson, he may be able to recapture some of his old form. Fuller caught 8 TD's, and was the top target in Houston in 2020, with Watson at the helm.

Here's the kicker -- there's another team in the AFC North that could use a high-reward, speedy WR. Especially one that may be intrigued by the idea of undercutting their rivals' gameplans.

Fuller is a game-changer with his speed and deep threat ability when he's right. Today, Chase Claypool is considered the Steelers deep-threat, but there's obviously a dynamic that is missing in Matt Canada's offense. The room has also slimmed down following the departures of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Ray Ray McCloud.

Fuller could provide some speed and another deep threat to complement Claypool, and a likely draft pick. Fuller doesn't have the size that Claypool does, but the real home run ability would be something to covet.

Once more - he isn't exactly an iron man. While he is an explosive wide receiver, injuries have kept him out of game action for as long as we've known him. When he was in Houston, I bet you drafted Fuller every year early in your fantasy league, right? And now you hate him! Because somewhere around mid-season, he was on IR. But you saw the potential. There is no doubt that Fuller can be a game-changer, but if he isn't in the game he's not going to be much of a help.

So it's a gamble - but on a 1-year-3 million dollar type deal, similar to what JuJu got in Kansas City, is it a gamble I'd make?

My answer is yes. Fuller is only 27. If it works out, great. If it doesn't - who cares?!

He has the potential to be the best deep threat option in Pittsburgh (as long as Mitch can get it to him) and if he stays healthy, could be as good, if not better than he was in Houston.
