The Steelers on Friday signed running back Jason Huntley to their practice squad. The 24-year-old running back played for New Mexico State and was drafted in the fifth round by the Detroit Lions in the 2020 NFL draft.
The Detroit Lions signed Jason for a four-year contract. The Lions then waived Jason during the final roster cuts on September 5th, 2020. He was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles on September 6th, 2020, and made his debut match against the Washington Football team in Week 1.
Huntley had one rushing attempt for 1 yard and finished the season rushing five times for 19 yards and one reception for 0 yards. On August 31st, 2021, Jason was waived by the Eagles and re-signed to the practice squad. On January 10th, 2022, he was signed to the active roster but was released on August 30th.
Jason has had 70 career rushing yards. He’s not the prettiest pony in the shed, but the Steelers liked him coming out of college, and he was in a stacked Eagles backfield with the likes of Miles Sanders and Kenneth Gainwell.
He’s most likely just an insurance policy here in the Burgh’.
