With the Super Bowl less than a week away, people like to go back and look at the past, and you can't talk about Super Bowl history without mentioning the six-time champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers! The Steelers have had plenty of history at the big game, not including the rings. Including historical firsts, injury scares, and savage post-game interviews! Five facts per Super Bowl win because if I had to talk about the losses, too, this wouldn't be as fun. And that's what the Super Bowl is all about!

Super Bowl IX, vs. Minnesota Vikings:

  • It was the first Super Bowl game where a safety happened
  • The battle of two legendary NFL defenses (Purple People Eaters vs. The Steel Curtain)
  • Lowest halftime score in Super Bowl history (2-0)
  • The fewest net yards allowed in a Super Bowl (119 yards)
  • Two Hall of Fame QBs battled (Fran Tarkenton vs. Terry Bradshaw

Super Bowl X, vs. Dallas Cowboys:

  • First-ever Super Bowl to feature two former Super Bowl winners
  • It was the first-ever Super Bowl where the winner, despite being down at halftime (down 7-10, came back to win 21-17)
  • Most sacks in a Super Bowl game (L.C. Greenwood with four sacks)
  • The Steelers played a clean, penalty-less game
  • Eventual Super Bowl MVP Lynn Swann almost didn't play due to a severe concussion in the AFC Championship but played and caught four receptions for 161 yards and one touchdown

Super Bowl XIII, vs. Dallas Cowboys:

  • It was the first-ever Super Bowl rematch
  • The game featured the most Hall of Famers in one Super Bowl, with 17 total
  • Both teams were fighting for their third Super Bowl ring
  • After the game and being crowned Super Bowl MVP, Terry Bradshaw had a savage comment regarding Dallas linebacker Thomas Henderson insulting Bradshaw by saying he couldn't spell 'cat' and Bradshaw would respond with, "ask if he can spell MVP."
  • Final Super Bowl to take place in the Orange Bowl after hosting The Big Game five times

Super Bowl XIV, vs. Los Angeles Rams:

  • There were SEVEN total lead changes, a Super Bowl record
  • Terry Bradshaw became the second QB ever to start four Super Bowls
  • It was the highest-attended Super Bowl ever, with 103,985 in attendance
  • The win vs. the Rams would be the last Steelers Super Bowl win for 26 YEARS until 2006
  • Most consecutive, consecutive Super Bowl wins (2)

Super Bowl XL, vs. Seattle Seahawks:

  • Steelers became the first sixth-seed team ever to win a Super Bowl
  • It was Seattle's first Super Bowl appearance
  • Ben Roethlisberger didn't have a great game: 42% completion percentage, 123 passing yards, two interceptions, zero passing touchdowns, and 22.6 QB rating
  • A familiar face did the coin toss who had, at the time, two MVPs and three Super Bowl wins and would go on to be one of the Steelers biggest thorn in their side, Tom Brady
  • The Steelers became the second team ever to win three road playoff games

Super Bowl XLIII, vs. Arizona Cardinals:

  • The game was ranked #1 best Super Bowl ever on the NFL Top 10
  • It would be the last game to feature commentary by the late great John Madden
  • There were riots in Pittsburgh after the game, and there was about $150,000 in damages, and more than 60 people were arrested
  • Mike Tomlin, at the time, was the youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl until Sean McVay won in 2022
  • James Harrison, on his first-half-ending pick-six, was supposed to blitz

History is made with every Super Bowl; this year is no different! Will the Chiefs continue their dynasty in the AFC, or will the 49ers tie with the Steelers and Patriots and win their sixth Super Bowl title? Let's see what happens this Sunday!
