Steelers Tuesday OTA’s Report

Yinzer Crazy • May 31, 2022

After a long Memorial Day Weekend, the Steelers are back in action over at their Southside facility. Let’s take a look at some of the news and notes from the day.

Diontae Johnson is back.

After a much maligned few weeks in the headlines, the 2021 Pro Bowl receiver was back with the team today. While DJ was available, he didn’t do a ton of on the field work, as he was mostly sidelined while holding a playsheet. That leads us to conclude that he’s still working on picking up some of new wide receiver Coach Frisman Jackson’s concepts.

As for his relationship with Jackson, it’s obviously a work in progress, given that they likely just met. So much so that someone told me
“you can tell it's not there yet."

Mitch Trubisky is QB1.

There was no revolving door at Quarterback. Trubisky led the way, taking all of the first team snaps, while Mason Rudolph took second team snaps. Some speculated that the team would shuffle the deck to see how each QB, including rookie 1st round pick Kenny Pickett, would fare with the starters. That hasn’t happened, at least so far.

Gunner Olszewski is the new Ray Ray McCloud - for now.

The special teams ace and former New England Patriot was heavily involved in the Steelers new motion heavy offense. He took numerous jet sweeps, and ran with the starters for most of the day. Rookie WR Calvin Austin III is behind him in the pecking order for now, which makes sense, given the way the Steelers’ generally operate with rookies. You’ve gotta earn it.

Najee Harris did not gain much weight.

There was a report earlier in the day that Najee Harris jumped from 231 pounds in 21’ to 244 pounds currently. Well, lets just let Najee address that himself:
