The 25-year-old defensive player will come to the Steelers for a one-year contract. The signing of Doug Costin comes just as the Steelers plan to release Daniel Archibong. The contract was signed on Tuesday, July 19th. Their contract signing was announced on their Twitter handle.

What does Doug Costin bring to the Steelers?

Doug Costin was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Doug, a solid defensive player, started playing college football at Miami University in Ohio, where he stayed for four years and played 50 games.

Doug has played for the Jackson Jaguars for the last two seasons, where he has played in 13 games. Doug had 33 tackles, 13 of them solo, three tackles for a loss, two passes defended, one quarterback hit, and one fumble recovery.

With the Jaguars, Doug had an impressive career where he played in 12 games and started nine at defensive tackle when he was a rookie.

In 2018, Doug was named second-team All-MAC after starting all 12 games and accumulating 52 tackles, 10.5 for loss, a team-high six sacks, three pass breakups, a blocked kick, and two forced fumbles.

Doug was also part of the Bengals' practice squad before Super Bowl LVI last season. Doug will compete for a spot on the 53-man Steelers roster alongside Carlos Davis, Khalil Davis, and Henry Mondeaux.

He has very good athletic skills, allowing him to consistently produce good results in the three seasons he was a starter. He also plays well, especially getting into gaps, and has good tackles outside his home base.

Costin has functional strength and very good athleticism, which will be crucial in his stay with the Steelers. He has also proved hard to catch for cut-off blocks in his zone games. Doug is one of several USFL players who have the opportunity to play in the NFL.
