Omar Khan, you’ve done it again.
In a number of moves made to trim the team to a 53 man roster, the Steelers got right to work, but trimming down the team wasn’t the only work they were doing. The Steelers made a trade with the Denver Broncos, who dealt OLB Malik Reed and a 2023 7th round pick in exchange for the Steelers’ 2023 6th round pick.
In the last two seasons, the 26 year old made 13 sacks, as well as 25 QB hits, in 30 games. Reed had been with the Broncos since being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2019 after graduating from the University of Nevada. According to his NFL statistics, he has made total of 15 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 4 pass deflections.
During his career at the University of Nevada, he had a total of 22 sacks and 203 tackles.
The Dothan, Alabama native stands at 6’2 and weighs 235 lbs. and will likely wear his veteran no. 59, as the number has not been taken.
The Steelers also traded for an offensive lineman, Jesse Davis. Davis was traded from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2025 conditional 7th round pick.
The 30 year old played for the University of Idaho and signed with the Seahawks in 2015 as an undrafted free agent. He was waived shortly after and was picked up the New York Jets. However, he was also waived before seeing any playing time. The next season, he went to the Miami Dolphins and spent 5 years with the organization before going to the Vikings’ practice squad in 2022.
The 6’6, 318 lb. guard has played in 80 games in his NFL career. He likely will wear no. 77, as John Leglue, who previously wore the number, was among one of the many roster cuts the Steelers made today.
Hopefully, the addition of Davis will help with the long struggling offensive line.
The Steelers open their season against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 11 at 1:00.
