The Pirates traveled to Arizona to take on a four game series with the Diamondbacks. The Pirates lost the first two games and then won the third and fourth, splitting the series.
Game One
The Pirates got shutout 3-0 after a stellar pitching performance from Zac Gallen, who went seven innings, struck out eight, and gave up five base runners, three hits and two walks. The Pirates starter Tyler Beede went three and two-thirds, giving up two hits, one walk, and zero runs. Manny Banuelos came in after giving up one unearned run in two innings of work. That made him the losing pitcher. Yerry De Los Santos pitched a scoreless inning and Yohan Ramirez gave up two earned runs in his inning of work.
Not a lot of offense for the Pirates as they only got on base six times. Three hits and three walks. Bryan Reynolds, Ben Gamel, and Michael Chavis all had singles against Gallen.
Game Two
The Pirates lost their second in a row by a score 6-4. Zach Thompson was on the mound and continued to struggle. He finished his night going four and two-third innings, five hits, three walks, three strikeouts, and two earned runs. Eric Stout pitched a scoreless two-third inning, Duane Underwood Jr gave up four earned runs in an inning, and Yohan Ramirez and Wil Crowe finished off the game with zero runs.

Game Three
The Pirates took a 6-4 victory tonight and Mitch Keller got the win on the mound. Keller went five and one-third innings giving up three earned runs, five hits, one walk, and struck out three. Colin Holderman and Wil Crowe both get holds and Eric Stout picks up the one out save, the first of his career.

Chase De Jong earned the loss after giving up three earned runs and Yerry De Los Santos gave up four earned runs. Duane Underwood Jr threw a scoreless one and two-third inning to end the game.
The Pirate offense started off hot with three runs in the fourth after some quality baserunning by Greg Allen to get in a rundown long enough for Tucupita Marcano to score. Marcano also had an RBI followed by Allen’s RBI single. Ke’Bryan Hayes had multiple hits and a stolen base. O’Neil Cruz, Josh VanMeter, and Greg Allen also recorded a stolen base.
The Pirates head up to San Francisco for a three game weekend series starting Friday night at 10:15 EST.
