What a season. There were tons of ups and downs as the Steelers' season ended Monday evening. Now that some time has passed, fans can either look at the season as successful for making the playoffs or a failure for not winning a playoff game. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter category, as my expectations for the year were needed to see at least one playoff win.
Yes, in large, the Steelers' season was successful. They finished with ten wins, one more than last season. They dealt with and overcame key injuries and a wrongful suspension or two. They fired their offensive coordinator mid-season after a loss to the Browns, how ironic. Omar Khan’s first rookie class as GM flashed throughout the year. And after all of that, still no playoff win.
Did you know that the Steelers have lost five straight playoff games, and four of them were one-and-done? Did you know that the Steelers trailed by at least twenty points in all five games, giving fans almost no hope for a comeback. At some point, enough must be enough. We’re talking about the six-time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, not the Browns. Our standard is winning Super Bowls, not just making the playoffs to lose.
I’m not advocating firing Mike Tomlin, I don’t know if that’s necessary, but what is necessary is change. No more status quo. No more only hiring from within. No more over-loyalty to those who don’t deserve it. And no more just “non-losing seasons”. Steelers Nation deserves a consistent winner, whoever the coach is. The team is in the middle of the pack, and something needs to happen sooner rather than later.
What do you think? Is it time for the Steelers to make a change?
