Just moments ago on his website, BigBen7.com, the face of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the past decade-plus, officially announced his retirement from the NFL.
"I don't know how to put into words what the game of football has meant to me," said Roethlisberger, at the beginning of the video announcement, shortly before some highlight clips from his time in Findlay, Ohio, as well as Miami University.
Roethlisberger went onto say that he was "blessed with the honor of being a Pittsburgh Steeler for 18 years- and a place that I call home. The time has come to clean out my locker, hang up my cleats, and continue to be all I can for my wife and children. I retire from football a truly grateful man."
Steelers fans witnessed something that had never been done before in the history of the NFL. A player with a career lasting 18 years, while only playing for one organization.
Ben Roethlisberger will likely once again head back to Ohio in four years. For his Hall of Fame induction in Canton.
