In a game in which Jaylen Warren fumbled at the one-yard line, James Pierre dropped a fake punt pass on the Steelers' 16-yard line, and Russell Wilson threw his first interception, and only 50% of his passes were completed, the Steelers somehow came out with a win against the impressive Washington Commanders team by one point! It was a genuinely incredible game! Let's go over who made the dub possible as the Steelers move to 7-2, retain first place in the AFC North, and string together four wins in a row for the first time since 2022.
Honorable Mentions:
Cam Heyward - 2 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection
Pat Freiermuth - 3 rec, 17 receiving yards, 1 TD reception
Mike Williams - 1 rec, 32 receiving yards, 1 TD reception
#3: Preston Smith - 3 tackles, 1 sack, 2 TFL, 1 QB Hit
The newly acquired linebacker from Green Bay makes a splash in his first game in the black and gold. A sack on Jayden Daniels in the 3rd quarter would help the Steelers defense hold the Commanders to three points, which would be their final score for the game. And with an injury to Alex Highsmith in the fourth quarter, the trade for Preston looks to have been a chess-level move from the Steelers front office.
#2: Jaylen Warren - 14 carries, 66 rushing yards, 2 receptions, 29 receiving yards, 1 fumble
It shocked me that Warren hasn't appeared on any of the MV-3s thus far in the 2024 campaign. But welcome to your first appearance on the top three, Mr. Warren. But before you complain that Najee Harris scored a TD, he should be here instead of Warren. Look at the average rushing yards between the two in the week ten matchup, and then get back to me. Yes, I know, the fumble nearly cost us the game, but Warren did more good than harm this game, including a 26-yard run in a drive that led to a must-needed touchdown in the 3rd quarter.
#1: George Pickens - 5 rec, 91 yards, 1 receiving TD, 1 carry, 4 rushing yards
George Pickens should be in the conversation for being a top-ten receiver in the league. Yes, the stats don't promote that idea, but look at the catches he makes nearly every week! The past three weeks have been excellent for Pickens stock as WR1. He has either had a touchdown or over 100 receiving yards in each of his last three games. Yes, it's no Jefferson or Chase game, but in terms of talent, he's simply astonishing.
Next week, it's THE game—the game that will likely decide the rest of the season: the 7-2 Steelers versus the 7-3 Ravens. The AFC North title race is likely over for the Bengals if they lose another game, and we don't need to talk about the Browns. The best rivalry in the NFL comes to town this Sunday, 1 PM, CBS in Pittsburgh! HERE WE GO
