It's 2024, and Joe Flacco is still facing the Steelers? And beat them? The script writers need to go into witness protection. Nonetheless, the Steelers suffered their first loss of the season. Poor defensive play, mistakes with ball carrying, and a crucial mistake in the fourth quarter that would prove to be costly for Pittsburgh. A botched snap would spell doom for the black and gold. However, this loss did have some highlights. The Steelers were down 17-3 after the first half but outscored the Colts 21-10 in the second, and in a weird twist of fate, the offense would be keeping the team in the game and the defense slowing them down. But what players made the loss easier to swallow? Let's take a look!
Honorable Mentions:
Cameron Heyward - 6 tackles, 1 sack
Najee Harris - 13 carries, 19 rushing yards, 3 rec, 54 rec yards
DeShon Elliot - 12 tackles
#3: Pat Freiermuth - 5 rec, 57 yards, 1 TD
Freiermuth is back in the fold as the fans yell, "MUUUUUUTH!" His first TD was in week three last year. He even converted a second and long for 29 yards! In my opinion, a top-ten tight end when healthy. The question is, now---can he keep up the play? Me thinks yes!
#2: George Pickens - 7 rec, 113 yards
Believe me, I wasn't happy about the fumble either, but he still had a solid game. A toe-tap reception that helped the Steelers get their first points of the game and a 38-yard catch that helped them score their first touchdown a few plays later were some of the best plays from the former Georgia Bulldog. And the first 100+ yard game for George since New Year's Eve 2023!
#1: Justin Fields - 22/34, 312 passing yards, 1 TD, 55 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs, 2 fumbles
Justin Fields is QB1. I will not be taking questions at this time. It wasn't perfect, but when was the last time the Steelers had three straight drives that ended with a touchdown? It was in 2021 in a week fourteen matchup versus Minnesota. In the losing effort versus the Colts, Fields became the first player in franchise history to record 300+ passing yards, 50+ rushing yards, and two touchdown runs. Whenever Fields makes a mistake, he seems to adjust and keep fighting. No disrespect to Russell Wilson, but Steeler Nation needs to ride with the former Buckeye.
Next week, the Steelers will face their Super Bowl rivals, the 2-2 Cowboys, in Pittsburgh. The first Sunday night game for October and fall is in full force. Can Pittsburgh get back to its winning ways? Can the Steelers go one game without a botched snap? Will Ezekiel Elliot break Pittsburgh fans' hearts and TV's again? Better not. See you next week!
