With week two concluding in the all-important dub for Pittsburgh in the Mile High City, it's time to accept reality---the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl. That said, the Steelers are onto their home opener against the Chargers (which, even if it were in LA, it STILL would've been a home opener), and things are looking promising. However, flags on the field instead of swinging in the air and being too conservative when their foot needs to remain on the gas, limit the team from reaching their full potential. But for now, the positives! What three teammates made the dub possible? Let's go over them!
Honorable Mentions:
Najee Harris - 17 carries, 69 yards, 1 rec, 5 yards
TJ Watt - 3 tackles, 1 sack
Cory Trice Jr., 2 tackles, 1 interception
#3: Alex Highsmith - 4 tackles, 1 sack
Games like this remind people that the defense isn't just Watt. Conversely, you got the spin move specialist in Alex Highsmith. A truly terrifying feeling knowing these two are after you. And Bo Nix felt the pressure Sunday as Highsmith and Watt were non-stop. A sack and many tackles put Highsmith in a good spot for the MV3.
#2: Damontae Kazee - 4 tackles, 1 interception
The game-sealing interception and four tackles for 'Krazy Kazee' give him a spot on the top three—a veteran in the game of football and a three-year member of the Steelers roster. The former San Diego State Aztec made Bo Nix throw 'Mo' Pix.' Could games like this get him back into the mix more often?
#1: Justin Fields - 13/20, 177 passing yards, 1 passing TD, 27 rushing yards
Fields remains in the top three but takes the number one spot this week as his unexpected rise as the Steelers starting QB continues going into week three. Confidence reigns in for the former Buckeye as he shows confidence in the system of Arthur Smith. Players like Freiermuth and Pickens are flourishing and remaining confident in their new QB. Just think, if a certain Pitt QB the Steelers selected in the 2022 draft stayed mature with the signing of Russell Wilson, we would be watching him play right now—a true feeling of trepidation.
Next week, the Steelers open in Acrisure against the Chargers, another AFC West team. Can the Steelers start 3-0 for the first time since 2020? Or will the Chargers light up the defense with the former Ravens running back, JK Dobbins, and the former Sheldon High School fishing club president, Justin Herbert?
